From the Manufacturer
The General Electric P42 locomotive is also known as the “Genesis” locomotive and is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive used across the United States and Canada. 2011 marked the 40th anniversary of Amtrak – to commemorate this historic birthday, Amtrak painted a number of its locomotives into a series of anniversary schemes, each taking design cues from a different paint and logo era from the railroad’s history. P42 locomotive #66 is painted in a phase II heritage scheme that marked the first use of the red, white and blue stripes that has influenced every paint scheme since. These heritage locomotives have been seen in attendance at National Train Day celebrations as well as other train related festivities all across the country and serve as a reminder of Amtrak’s long history as America’s railroad.

Description
The General Electric P42 locomotive is also known as the “Genesis” locomotive. The P42 is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive used across the United States and Canada. Amtrak’s P42 has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service and today they are used throughout the United States. Since their introduction, they have had a number of physical revisions to improve the ease of maintenance and parts replacements, including a bolt-on fiberglass nose panel (replacing the original’s solid metal which was difficult to repair or replace) and a new headlight bezel that is more rounded than the previous square versions.
9. MRC N Gauge Dual Mode Drop-In Decoder: Kato P42, E8 and E9
Description
From the Manufacturer
MRC’s N gauge drop-in sound decoder/speaker combination for Kato’s P-42 Genesis locomotive and Kato E8 and E9 replaces Kato’s factory installed circuit board, by simply removing factory pc board and dropping in the MRC decoder. There is no wiring, no machining, no “dremeling”. This decoder offers sound that’s virtually “plug ‘n play” for one of N-scale’s smoothest running and most popular locomotives. This is a dual mode decoder so you get brilliantly synchronized diesel rumble sounds on a DC (powerpack users) layout as well. And there’s more… railroaders who run DC layouts can also enjoy the full capability of the decoder when used with MRC’s BlackBox (#0001050) control unit or the new Tech 6 line of power packs. Decoder features include two selectable diesel prime mover types with randomly associated locomotive sounds. User selectable 16 different horns and 8 bells. Programmable features include individual sound volumes, either 2-digit (1-127) or 4-digit (1-9999) addresses, start voltage, acceleration rate, deceleration rate, top voltage and 14, 28, 128 speed steps. Selectable factory default speed curve. Supports full read back, advanced consisting (CV19) and programming on the main (OPS mode). Complies with Part 15 of FCC regulations. (Locomotive not included).
